Earlier in the year, Apple CFO Luca Maestri announced that the iPhone 12 will be arriving later than usual, due to delays caused by the global pandemic. Instead of the usual September launch, we should expect to hear news of the iPhone 12 in mid-October.
However, the tech world was shook by a surprise announcement at the beginning of September, signalling a potential launch date of Tuesday 15 September, during apple’s digital event. Rumours from camp-apple suggest that the event will focus on the new apple watch and iPad.
An October launch date seems the most likely from the many rumours that have been floating around, due to delays with development and production from both Apple and their suppliers.
There have also been rumours that the iPhone 12 family will launch at different times. For example, DigiTimes, have commented “the two 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models could come out first in October, with the 6.7 and 5.4-inch models to follow. One 6.1-inch iPhone and the 5.4-inch iPhone are expected to be more affordable devices, while 6.7-inch iPhone and the other 6.1-inch iPhone will be “Pro” devices.”
We asked our Reward Mobile “techspert” Ryan Kailla what his opinion was, and he told us “From looking at the rumours we will be looking at a delay on the iPhone by a couple of weeks. I hope we don’t have to wait too long though – I’m due an upgrade!”
According to Mac Rumours, the iPhone 12 is rumoured to be the smallest iPhone Apple has released since the 4.7-inch iPhone SE. On the other end of the scale, the 2020 iPhone 12 Pro will be Apple’s largest iPhone to date, topping the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max at 6.7 inches.
Experts are predicting a complete redesign of the iPhone, similar to the iPhone 4. This would mean a stainless steel frame and flat body, so be prepared for a transformed look and feel.
Rumours are also circulating about the camera, Apple are supposedly introducing a “3D triple-lens rear camera system that uses a laser to calculate depth information for objects in the room, improving both photography and AR capabilities.”
The rumoured A14 chip will bring with it increased battery life and speed, something iPhone users have been asking for years.
