The new iPhone is finally here! Last night Apple launched their new range of mobile phones with an event involving some of the brightest minds in mobile technologies. The event saw them delve into the features and technologies of the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro, as well as their counterparts the iPhone 12 Mini and the iPhone 12 Max.
What did we learn?
With a design that mirrors the new iPad Pro models, all four handsets are 5G ready. Each device operates with a Magsafe charging system that not only allows for precise wireless charging but also sees the introduction of a range of accessories that work with the internal Magsafe pad. “This is a big shakeup for Apple in terms of range and the introduction of 5G,” Andy Layfield, our resident Apple expert, enthused – and he’s not wrong.
As part of their commitment to being carbon neutral, Apple have announced they will not be providing charging blocks or headphones with any of the new phones. “There are 700 million pairs of Apple wired headphones in the world and 2 billion charging bricks,” Andy explains. By just providing a USB C to lightning cable in the box, it’s a step forwards in the brand’s commitment to the environment. “It means the equivalent of 450,000 cars off the road per year in the reduction of waste, mining, packaging…”
Available in five different colours – black, white, red, pink, and blue – the iPhone 12 was designed with 5G in mind and prides itself on packing new technologies into a smaller form. Take the A14 Bionic, for example: this new chip, devised by Apple, is the fastest chip ever used in a smartphone. This new design has a ceramic coated screen for extra durability. The new camera set up includes a new wide camera with an F 1.6 aperture – their fastest yet – and a newly improved night mode for all cameras. The iPhone 12 also boasts higher resolution imaging, with twice as many pixels as the iPhone 11.
iPhone 12 Mini
iPhone 12 mini packs all the iPhone 12’s big features into a 5.4-inch design. With 5G to download movies on the fly and stream high-quality video. A beautifully bright and compact Super Retina XDR display. Ceramic Shield with 4x better drop performance. Incredible low-light photography with Night mode on all cameras. Cinema-grade Dolby Vision HDR video recording, editing, and playback. Powerful A14 Bionic chip. It’s big news for mini.
iPhone 12 Pro
Designed for users who want the most from their phone, the iPhone 12 Pro is available in four colours – silver, graphite, gold, and pacific blue – and introduces a pro-camera system unlike any other. This is the first phone to record in Dolby Vision HDR. While you record in 10-bit high dynamic range you get a live preview of your HDR content on the industry-leading Super Retina XDR display.
iPhone 12 Pro Max
The iPhone 12 Pro Max boasts an expansive 6.7 inch display, 3 hours more video playback battery life than the 12 Pro and 5x optical zoom on the camera. And all with 5G on top. So, you can download huge files on the go and stream HDR video to enjoy on the biggest display yet on an iPhone.
The iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro will be available for pre-order this Friday, October 16th, and available on general sale from 23rd October. To register for updates and prices on these new devices as soon as they drop, fill in your details here and we’ll be in touch.
